"Having siblings" - how do I prepare my child for this?

A second or third child changes the family constellation. The situation is not easy, especially for the first-born, since he or she is, to a certain extent, "dethroned" becomes and thereby jealous can be. For the newborn, by its very nature, will get a lot of attention.

Here we would like to recommend you children's books to prepare your child for a new sibling.

The following books are suitable for ages 2 and up and are recommended by many parents in preparation for a sibling.

Children's books about having siblings*

A sibling for the little owl by Debi Gliori
A very cute and funny beginner book on the subject mentioned above.

Baby is here: Four color cardboard picture book (German) Cardboard picture book by Danielle Graf
Toni gets a sibling. That's great at first. But the question quickly arises: Can the baby be given back? Needs-oriented, full of everyday situations (even negative!) and beautifully illustrated.

Our tip: "Tara and the missing knitting needle".

Story from Tara's story app

The story lends itself to when the older child is particularly jealous at the time, breaks things or closes himself off from the parents.

She helps the older child, express his anger.
Especially great: Your child can listen to the story independently, for example, if you need five minutes of time with the baby!

Bobo Siebenschläfer gets a sibling by Markus Osterwalder
Bobo is getting a sibling and is full of anticipation and helps the parents with the preparations. Very loving and positive - especially great if your kid is already a Bobo fan.

We are four now! From Sabine Cuno
Little babies cry, can't play ball yet and demand attention from mom - it's easy to get jealous and angry. These sides are also dealt with in detail in this book.

Our Baby (Why? Weshalb? Warum?) junior, Volume 12
The well-known series has also released a realistic children's book on the subject of raising a family.
This book is characterized by realistic images:
- mom belly gets thicker with time
- the baby is naked at birth with umbilical cord
- the mom is exhausted after the birth
- the baby is breastfed and gets the bottle

When is actually the right time to tell your child about the sibling? Opinions differ here - but at the latest when you tell the belly is already clearly visible.

You can find out more about the right time in the Article: When little kids become big siblings. Or: "How do I tell my child?"
