App Privacy

1. Responsible Party

The Verein Kinderstark, Sihlquai 131, 8005 Zurich, Switzerland, is responsible for processing personal data in the Tara & Pips Empowerment app. For questions about data protection or to exercise your rights, contact us at info@verein-kinderstark.ch.

2. Scope

This privacy policy applies to the Tara & Pips Empowerment app for iOS and Android. For the website tarapips-empowerment.com, the "Website Privacy" section below on this page applies.

We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP). Where individuals in the European Union are affected, we additionally comply with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

3. Principles

The app is designed for children aged four to nine and is set up and accompanied by parents or caregivers. We process as little data as possible. We do not sell personal data, show advertising, or create advertising profiles of children.

4. User Account

Using the app requires a user account. We collect your email address and your chosen language. The email address lets us give you access to your content and reply to you if needed. The language setting controls which language the stories are delivered in.

The account is set up by parents or caregivers. We do not ask children themselves for any information.

5. Usage Data and Error Reports

We use the following services in the app:

Firebase Analytics by Google. This service records how the app is used, for example which areas are opened and how long the app is used. We use this analysis to improve the app.

Firebase Crashlytics by Google. This service automatically notifies us when the app crashes, together with technical details about the device and the time of the crash. Without such reports we could not fix errors.

Both services are operated by Google. Google's privacy policy applies in addition.

6. Subscription and Payments

The subscription for 3 Swiss francs per month is processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play. You enter your payment details there, not with us. We do not receive any credit card data.

We use the service RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. It processes the information on whether a valid subscription exists and links it to your account. RevenueCat's privacy policy applies in addition.

7. Storage Location

The application runs on Amazon Web Services servers in the eu-central-1 data center in Frankfurt, Germany. The database with account data is located in the us-east-2 data center in Ohio, United States.

8. Children

The app is intended for children under the age of thirteen. We do not ask children for any information beyond what is necessary for using the app. Accounts are created and managed by parents or caregivers. Parents can request information about the data stored for their account, and have it corrected or deleted, at any time.

9. Disclosure to Third Parties

We only disclose personal data where this is necessary for operating the app, namely to Amazon Web Services for hosting, to Google for usage analysis and error reports, to RevenueCat for managing subscriptions, and to Apple and Google for distributing the app and processing payments. Beyond that, we disclose data if we are legally required to do so.

10. Disclosure Abroad

Some data is processed in the United States, in particular the account database and the services provided by Google and RevenueCat. These providers are contractually obliged to protect the data there as well, in line with Swiss and European standards, based on standard contractual clauses or the applicable frameworks for transatlantic data transfer.

11. Retention Period

Your account data remains stored for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, the associated data is removed immediately. Deletion is possible directly in the app.

12. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss and misuse. Data is transmitted in encrypted form.

13. Your Rights

You have the right to obtain information about the personal data we process about you, as well as to have it corrected or deleted, unless a statutory retention obligation applies. You may object to the processing and withdraw any consent given at any time. You may also request that your data be provided to you in a common electronic format.

To exercise these rights, a message to info@verein-kinderstark.ch is sufficient.

If you believe that we are not processing your data lawfully, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner in Switzerland. Individuals in the European Union may contact their competent data protection supervisory authority.

14. Legal Basis

Where the GDPR applies, we base processing on the performance of a contract for accounts and subscriptions, on our legitimate interest in the secure and functioning operation of the app for error reports, on your consent for usage analysis, and on compliance with legal obligations for accounting.

15. Changes

We may update this privacy policy if the app or legal requirements change. The version published on this page at any given time is the applicable one.
